How to use Airmail(tm) Airmail(tm) - Email for your phone!
If you are unfamiliar with using Short Messages or the text function on your mobile phone please review Short Messages on your Phone before reading this chapter.

Internet To Mobile

To send a message from an Internet e-mail account to your SMS capable mobile phone, use your standard email program to send it to your AirmailTM address.

Your AirmailTM address in fact becomes another Internet e-mail address.
For example, the user 'home' on 'dsres.com' sends an email of:
To: i.surname@airmail.co.uk
Subject: Mobile Messaging
Hello from the net to a mobile phone!

Remembering that most mobile phones have small screens, this will arrive on the mobile phone as an SMS message looking like:
home@dsres.com (Mobile Messaging) Hello from the net to a mobile phone!

Mobile To Internet

To send a message from your mobile phone to an Internet e-mail address, an SMS message has to be sent to the Gateway number allocated to you. Remember to include the + sign if this is indicated on your Gateway number.
To send mail to the Internet, the message should begin with the email address to send to, followed by an optional Subject field in parenthesis, followed by the message.
For example:
HOME!DSRES.COM (BACK TO YOU) THANKS FOR THE MESSAGE

The sender's email address has been entered slightly differently than its standard Internet form. The '@' between the user and host parts has been entered as an '!'. This is to avoid limitations in the characters available on some mobile phones. Also the GSM character set does not have an underscore '_' character. You may enter the '$' character instead of '_' within the Internet email address.
For example you can write john_doe@airmail.co.uk on your phone as: john$doe!airmail.co.uk. Going back to our previous example, once the e-mail is sent from your phone it will appear on the email account of 'home@dsres.com' as:
From: i.surname@airmail.co.uk
To: home@dsres.com
Subject: BACK TO YOU
THANKS FOR THE MESSAGE
The recipient can now reply to your message and you will receive the response on your mobile phone!

Turning AirmailTM ON and OFF

If you wish, you can turn your AirmailTM facility off. In this case messages will not reach your phone and a message will be returned to the sender saying that you are not currently reachable by AirmailTM.
To turn the AirmailTM facility off, send the following message to your Gateway number:
EMAIL OFF
Conversely, to turn AirmailTM back on, send the following message to your Gateway number:
EMAIL ON
